About CSP

What does the CSP designation mean?
A CSP is a highly skilled professional who has met the experience, knowledge, skills and standards established by the CPSA Sales Institute. A CSP is committed to personal career development and lifelong learning.
The CSP designation identifies the holder as a highly qualified sales professional in tune with today's global environment.
What are the benefits of certification?
Candidates that have received a mark of 85% will be given the honor of using the words "with distinction" along with their designation. This select group of CSP's constitutes 10% of the total graduates.
How did the CPSA-Sales Institute arrive at the knowledge base for their examinations?
A national job analysis was conducted in partnership with Human Resources Development Canada in 1995 and again in 2000, to determine the important tasks or duties of the typical sales representative and sales manager, along with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform those tasks. The CPSA conducted a series of focus groups across the country with sales representatives and sales managers from various industries, and then validated the identified competencies, tasks and sub-tasks. Based on this validated list of competencies, an examination process was developed. A Professional Standards Council continues to update competency standards and adjust the CSP criteria accordingly.
Why, was a certification program developed?
The CSP certification program is designed to enhance the skills and reputation of sales people through professional standards and certification.
